After the 1982 war, Israel had pushed the PLO out of Lebanon and wanted to maintain a buffer zone to prevent future attacks. The United States leaned hard on Israel to withdraw. Israel pulled back to a narrow security strip.

When Saddam Hussein fired Scud missiles at Israel, Israel prepared to respond with airstrikes to hunt down the launchers. The George H.W. Bush administration blocked them. America needed Arab countries in its coalition, and an Israeli military operation would have blown it apart. So Israel sat there, absorbing missile after missile.

Israel’s government concluded that Iran’s nuclear program posed an existential threat and prepared to strike. The Obama administration ran a coordinated, behind-the-scenes campaign to stop it, working with Israeli political figures to publicly argue against the strike.

Across the Israeli political spectrum, left and right, virtually every voice opposed the deal. The agreement let Iran pause its nuclear program for ten years in exchange for sanctions relief and billions of dollars, money that went straight into funding Hezbollah, Hamas, and Iran’s ballistic missile program. Israel fought it with everything it had. Obama signed it anyway.

מצב דברים זה, אשר יש בו חילול השם ובזיון הקודש, טומן בחובו לאחרונה, גם סכנה ממשית לאחיזתנו בהר המוריה וירושלים בכלל.

על כן פונים אנו אל מעלתכם בקריאה דחופה לעורר את לב ישראל אל מקום מקדשנו על ידי קביעה ברורה ומפורשת של המקומות בשטח הר הבית המותרים בכניסה עפ”י הדין, עם הגבלותיהם ותנאיהם, כך שאפשר יהיה להקים מקום תפילה קבוע ליהודים על הר הבית בשטח שהכניסה אליו מותרת ללא כל חשש, תוך הקפדה על כל ההלכות הנרחבות שם, וידע העולם כולו, כי הר קדשנו ותפארתנו לאלקי ישראל הוא, זאת מנוחתי עדי עד פה אשב כי אויתיה.

I just found out what R’ Elyakim Shlesinger actually claimed…

Some anti-Zionist rag (quoting Schleisinger’s Hador V’Hatekufa, p. 67):

“… Rav Elyokim Schleisinger recalled that the doctor who treated Rav Blau on the ship was certain that he had been poisoned. However, Rav Dushinski instructed the family not to open a criminal investigation. In fact, it is said that Rav Blau himself was aware of the threat and ate only from his own food throughout the journey, but made an exception for that cup of tea, which was indeed poisoned.”

(Of course, Rabbi Shlesinger’s word, if unbacked by others, is worthless. He’s a well-established liar.)
