ארע שנשבר חפץ בביתו של מרן הגאון רבי אהרן לייב שטיינמן. אחד מבני הבית טען בטרוניה על כך שהמוצרים של היום עשויים מחומרים זולים, לכן הכל נשבר, מתקלקל וכלה, ואנו נאלצים לבזבז כספים על קניית אותם מוצרים.

אמר רבי אהרן לייב כי המבט שלו אינו נכון: כיום זקוקים ליותר כסף למחייה. בגלל שמייצרים כלים זולים, יוצא שיש פרנסה יותר מבעבר שלא היו זקוקים להרבה כסף. בימי ילדותו המוצרים החזיקו מעמד לאורך שנים, הבגדים נשמרו ולא בלו, ממילא המפעלים יצרו מעט סחורה, וכן לא היה צורך בפועלים רבים. היוצא מכך שלאנשים לא היתה פרנסה.

אך היום הכל להיפך, הכלים נשברים ולא עמידים, מכשירי החשמל מתקלקלים ולא יציבים. כיון שכך, המפעלים צריכים לעבוד הרבה יותר כדי להדביק את הביקוש הרב, שהרי הכל נשבר מהר, ממילא יש צורך בפועלים רבים, וכך יש ליותר אנשים מקומות עבודה, וזה כגלגל חוזר.

ובכלל, בעבר העניות היתה איומה, לרוב האנשים לא היה לחם לפי הטף, ממש כפשוטו, והיום יש יותר כסף לאנשים. הכל מאיתו יתברך, הזן וומפרנס את העולם כרצונו!

With all due respect, very little of this is either true or logical.

With such terrible economic ignorance, and lacking the very awareness of his own awesome ignorance, it is hardly surprising to see what Rabbi Steinman told the Ashkenazi Charedi pols to do and not do.
