REALLY?! On Comparing IDF Shmad and the Holocaust

I received this picture of a protest van (“It was better to die as a Jew in the Holocaust than to spiritually die in the IDF camps”):

Well, I have my doubts about this dichotomy.

Did they really die “as Jews” in the Holocaust? Or, worse than the IDF, could untoward thoughts have occurred to some Jews in such dire straits?!
