Comparing Aveiros Among Two Litvish Communities

On Inculcating Social Norms and Values Through the Back Door

Skimming through several issues of two competing weekly kids’ magazines of the two “warring” Litvish factions in Eretz Yisroel today, my wife found that one consistently portrays illustrations of married women with a real head covering, while the other has very much of the legal fiction type, as well. A teacher, for example, will NEVER be drawn up there wearing anything BUT legal fiction, and of course, the skirt will be not less, and also not MORE, Heaven forbid (I just wonder WHICH heaven), than halfway between the knee and the foot.
Two disclaimers:
1) I just happened to pick up on one example that is favorable (= Jewish = Torah compliant) to one of the magazines, and unfavorable to the other, but there are probably many more examples in either direction.
2) There may be many of either of the Litvish stock who do not hold by the negative standards of the herd they are part of, and they can hopefully influence fellow “Yerudim” to Torah-compliance.
