A Lofty Soul Ascends Heavenward…

On Erev Rosh Hashana, Menachem Polishuk, a budding talmid chacham, was niftar at the age of 25. His petirah came as a shock to the many people who knew him, for although he suffered from a liver ailment since birth, he led a remarkably vibrant life. Despite his illness and other yissurim he possessed a genuine simchas hachaim, spending his time immersed in Torah study and joyous avodas Hashem.
Born and raised in New York, Menachem learned at Yeshiva Darchei Torah. His family moved to Eretz Yisrael several years ago and he soon followed suit, joining Yeshivas Mir Yerushalayim.
THE MASMID
“All I want to do is learn,” Menachem would tell a rebbe of his. His entire life testified to this profound desire.
When he learned Torah, he was really into it; he was not easily distracted. His eyes glued to the Gemara, his body swaying, he sang the words with a sweetness that made it clear that he truly enjoyed learning. A paradigm of bikush haEmes, he would not rest until he arrived at the true pshat of each sugya.
Menachem placed a tremendous value on time. Beyond the beis medrash, he would seize every opportunity to learn Torah, learning from a sefer during meals and while he waited for an appointment to begin.
