Were You Fined for Going Outside Last Year? You May Be Entitled to a Refund!

A year ago, in October 2020, one of the Corona rules forbade people from being more than a kilometer from their homes (excepting essential workers). This included attending a demonstration. The Supreme Court ruled that this rule was unconstitutional, due to the fact that it prevented people from protesting.  Because it is impossible to distinguish between people leaving their homes to protest and people leaving their homes for any other reason, all fines handed out for being too far from home between the first and thirteenth of October 2020 have been canceled.

Authorites sent messages to people who were fined between October first and thirteenth 2020, inviting them to receive a refund. So far, of the 17,787 who were fined, 12,357 have been refunded. The refunds so far total 7,565,876 shekels.

If you were fined during this period, and have not yet received a refund, check your eligibility here: https://www.gov.il/he/service/receipt-of-refund-for-payment-corona-fines . If you are eligible, you can go to the nearest post office and present your teudat zehut to receive your refund.  No bank details or other identifying information is required.

Again, I cannot vouch for the above.
