Reclaiming Gaza: Spotlight on Nachala

Currently, the spotlight is on Nachala, as they work tirelessly to allow thousands of Israelis to return to Gaza to rebuild their homes once the IDF and Israeli government clear the area.

Nachala stands at the forefront of a historic mission: to restore Jewish settlement in Yehuda, Shomron, and Gaza. With unwavering determination, the movement is preparing to help thousands rebuild and create new homes and communities.

The call to action is growing louder as the war progresses, fueled by a deeper understanding that reestablishing Jewish settlement in Gaza is not just a matter of security but a moral priority tied to the Jewish nation’s bond with its land. As Nachala’s chairman, Tzvi Elimelech Sharvaf, declared:

“The only way to regain our security and uphold our values is to conquer Gaza and establish widespread Jewish settlement.”

This vision has rapidly ignited widespread support across national, religious, and secular communities, uniting many under a shared goal: transforming Gaza into a thriving Jewish territory—especially in the wake of the brutal attacks of Oct. 7.

Israel’s war in Gaza is a battle for the future of the region and the security of the Jewish people. The primary goals remain the destruction of Hamas’ military and governing capabilities and the return of the hostages. While daunting, these goals are necessary. The IDF’s impressive performance thus far shows that with unwavering determination, success is possible.

Today, most soldiers and Israeli citizens agree that alternative outcomes—such as a full siege or a ceasefire agreement—would only strengthen Hamas and fail to achieve lasting security. A hostage deal, while emotionally compelling, cannot come at the cost of strategic defeat. Capitulation would simply revive Hamas, erode Israeli deterrence, invite further aggression, and trap Israel in an endless cycle of violence.

For long-term security and peace, Israel must assume responsibility for ensuring a Jewish presence in Gaza and asserting control over it. This is not just a tactical necessity but a national strategic obligation.

In January 2024, Nachala’s landmark conference, “Returning to Gaza: Only Settlements Can Ensure Security,” drew thousands, including senior ministers and Knesset members. This pivotal event sparked extensive public debate and propelled the vision of Jewish settlement in Gaza to the forefront of the national agenda—and of international Jewish interest.

“Since the October 7th attack, we have seen strong support from Jewish communities worldwide, recognizing the renewal of settlement in Gaza as both a national priority and a key to enhancing Israel’s security,” said Lital Marmerosh-Slonim, director of foreign relations at Nachala. “These communities are going far beyond words—they are actively advancing this vital cause.”

Gaza’s significance in Jewish history is undeniable. From ancient texts to modern times, Gaza has been a hub of Jewish life, flourishing under figures like Rabbi Yisrael Najara. The establishment of communities such as Gush Katif, Kfar Darom, and Netzarim marked a period of growth, prosperity, and resilience—tragically cut short by the 2005 disengagement. Today, Nachala is leading the effort to reclaim this vital part of our heritage.

In recent months, Nachala’s momentum has been visible through initiatives like the Passover Seder for dozens of families and other programs near the Gaza border. Now, Nachala is gearing up for an exciting new event: a three-day mission tour in English across Yehuda, Shomron, and the Gaza envelope, beginning on Yom Yerushalayim also known as Yom Yehuda Ve’Shomron.

Titled “Frontiers Must Be Settled,” this outstanding tour promises a unique and authentic pioneering experience—taking participants where no other tour has gone before. Highlights include visiting new and existing settlements, meeting distinguished Knesset Members, and hearing firsthand accounts from soldiers and bereaved families. Participants will explore Otef Gaza, Hebron, Gush Etzion, Nachala’s latest initiatives (Gofna, Oriad, and more), and engage in workshops and intimate discussions, including the warm hospitality of Daniella Weiss.

Daniella Weiss, often referred to as the strongest man in the Shomron,” has shaped the settlement enterprise for half a century. Deeply influenced by the Lehi Underground ideology and inspired by Rabbi Moshe Levinger, she helped transform the settlement movement after the Yom Kippur War. After serving as secretary general of Gush Emunim and later as mayor of Kedumim for nine years (expanding it to 13 neighborhoods and an industrial zone), Weiss now leads Nachala, establishing new settlements and cultivating groups of young families ready to settle at the appropriate time.

Today, with a sympathetic American administration and a right-wing Israeli government, the feasibility of resettling Gaza has not been this strong in two decades. The current war is essential; the alternatives—instability, renewed threats, and weakness—are not options.

Rebuilding Gaza with Jewish settlements is not only moral, rational, and just, but it is also rooted in historical truth, aligned with Torah values, and remains the only viable and humane solution.

Think this is all far-fetched? As David Ben-Gurion famously said:

“Those who do not believe in miracles are not realists.”

Today, we are seeing that miracles are indeed within reach.
