ואנשי קדש תהיון לי ובשר בשדה טרפה לא תאכלו לכלב תשלכון אתו.
The Da’as Zekeinim explains:
ובשר בשדה טרפה וגו’. מאחר שהכלב מסר נפשו על הטרפה כשבא הזאב לטורפה לא תהיה כפוי טובה כנגדו שכשיהיה לך טרפה שתשליכהו אליו בשכר ששמרה עד עתה שלא נטרפה וגם שומר עוד האחרות כי כן דרך העולם להעמיד כלבים לשמור הצאן מן הזאבים.
Likewise Perush Ba’alei Hatosafos writes:
ובשר בשדה טרפה לא תאכלו וכו’. לפי ששמר העדר שלא טרף הזאב לא תהיה כפוי טובה לנגדו וכשיהיה לך טרפה תשליכנו לפניו. וכמו כן שלם לכלב שכרו שלא חרץ לשונו עליך בצאתך ממצרים אף כי היה עומד במשמרתו שדרכו לנבוח. ועוד כי גם האחרות שאינם בעדר שומר כי דרך רועים להעמיד כלבים לשמור הצאן מזאבים ומאויבים. לכן תשליך לו הטרפה.

You mean we should go in the ways of Hashem and be grateful to the leaders who usually keep Jews safe, and still serve the nation in the line of duty, this in spite of their recent failure to prevent the Shmini Atzeres invasion, just as the Torah has us reward the sheepdog for his past and future service, even, and perhaps especially, in spite of the mishap. Very nice. Perhaps this relates to the “Anshei Kodesh” part of the pasuk, too…
