Constantly competing on the free market to remain desirable to paying customers is hard. It’s far easier to use the state to suppress, “limit access” to competitors. How? By making things harder for everyone trying to sell, so only the currently strong remain. You, that is.

So this is what happens.

The tale is told of two rivals, one of whom is offered a wish, but also told his rival will get double. His spiteful response: “Put out one of “That Man’s” eyes!”

That is a great metaphor in my opinion.
