HYEHUDI EDITOR: I Once Met Rabbi Shlomo Fisher zatzal

Rabbi Fisher was very kind and encouraging to a total stranger and an overconfident youth with unconventional halachic ideas. He listened closely, immediately examined my claims, and seriously evaluated as many source texts as I quoted, opening one Sefer after another, patient and focused. He also gave me as much time as I wanted.

And when I, at his teasing instigation, “upped the ante” in our discussion, admitting to far greater extremism, he wasn’t put off. Rabbi Fisher still treated me and my thoughts with the utmost respect (although he gently stopped agreeing with me).

I gained much, although I never took up his invitation to continue our talk.

(I cannot capture this fully.)
