An essay by Hugh Harris claims the Hebrew word “Mamon” (money) is etymologically related to “Emuna” (desacralized faith). I have not examined this yet.
That is, man trusts his currency is redeemable; that is what renders it currency. Money is the most marketable commodity. No trust equals no division of labor.
