The word “Chassidus” now ironically means less scrupulous observance of Mitzvos.
Some of this includes:
- Omitting Tachnun without justification.
- Praying after the time.
- Eating (or drinking coffee) before the morning prayers.
- Lubavitch…
- For some, Shkiyah (sundown) doesn’t matter even for Niddah.
- Rumors of ‘Rabbenu Tam’ time leniency for Shabbos (in Antwerp).
- Toldos Aaron and Gerrer guidelines (‘Takanos’) which abrogate Halacha.
- Nittel.
- Changing prayers to ‘Nusach Sefard’.
- Kohanim visiting the gravesites of the righteous.
- Making Simchas Torah a joke.

In time, most of Jewry have been influenced by one another for both good and evil (and all rules have exceptions) so this is not obvious. But some are trying to return Chassidus to its antinomian roots, like Rabbi Yitzchak Ginsburg and Rabbi Itamar Schwartz.
Note: Breslov is not “Chassidus” in this sense at all, in my opinion, in light of completely unique statements like these:
“What do we do as Breslover Hasidim?” [Rabbi Nachman] replied, “Whatever it says in the Shulchan Aruch (Code of Jewish Law).”
“Interpret my teachings any way you like, but don’t change a se’if katan [a commentary’s sub-section] in the Shulchan Arukh!” Si’ach Sarfey Kodesh, Vol. II, 1-131
And then Rabbi Nachman forbade any “successors” to himself. Breslover “Chassidus” is a Trojan Horse, not an interchangeable competitor. And genuine Chassidim sense this all too well, which is the reason for their historical extra-strength opposition to Breslov.
