Jewish Musicology: What Are the Standards?

I myself disagree with the idea of Halachic standards for prohibiting so-called non-Jewish music (side issues, such as Nibul peh lyrics, etc. aside). But the opposing case was made well enough it deserves a link, so the reader can judge for himself (some value remains even after the errors are uncovered).

Here is the Hebrew version: קונטרס – כי דבר ה’ בזה. Here is the English version: “The Torah Is Not Hefker” (and Amazon). The author’s name is Ephrayim Luft of Bnei Brak. (I’m surprised to discover I haven’t mentioned him on Hyehudi yet.)

By the way, some expand the idea of intuiting Jewish cultural directives far further. See Rabbi Eldad Nakar’s books on Jewishly “correct” body language. Once again, his work is valuable but is not Halachic (hard to explain).
